PJ Weston
PJ Weston is a refreshing reminder that quality music is not about how many notes per minute you might play. Neither is it about the manufactured posturing of passing fashion. Quality music is simple, yet not simplistic; both of it’s time and timeless.
PJ Weston is his music. A writer, musician, vocalist and performer whose music speaks to the emotional core of a listener, a core we all share yet so few in contemporary music are willing to tap into. He crafts songs of strong beauty and lasting appeal, accessible and ethereal.
Weston’s repertoire is a rich gumbo of assorted, yet complementary, ingredients. Tastes of country, pop, rock and folk are prevalent without any being overpowering. His work demonstrates a clear respect for musical history without being bogged in yesterday; a genuine stylistic amalgam that, as an original whole, defies pigeon-holing.
A palpable integrity marks the pieces of Weston’s debut release, “Songs About Home”. This album is a mature, self-produced solo debut that reflects how he has developed into an artist with keen modern instincts and an ear for meaty hooks and fragile nuances alike. Importantly, it also seems that he has not sidelined what made his contribution to Brisbane stalwarts Naked Apes and, more recently, Poppa Mono so unique.
PJ Weston’s music is smart, taut and direct. It is also funny, touching and thoroughly engaging. It is polished without being shiny, filling without being bloated. ‘Nuff talking, now listen!!
